Bed Bug Treatment and Bed Bug Control Specialists for Northern New Jersey
No
bigger than an apple seed, bed bugs hide in tiny cracks and
crevices in and near beds creeping out at night to feed on their
slumbering human victims. Vampires of the insect world, bed bugs
are opportunistic pests that feed on the blood of humans, creating
psychological panic well out of proportion to their size. While
classed as a nuisance pest and not known to transmit disease,
bed bugs bites can raise itchy red welts -- often dozens each
night that plague their victims with a terrible itch and swelling.
Just the thought that they are being nibbled on in their sleep
is enough to traumatize many bed bug victims.
Over the past five years bed bug infestations have increased by more than 70% and last year were reported in all 50 states. In the northern New Jersey and Greater New York City area bed bug infestations have reached epidemic proportions. Their flat, oval, wingless bodies allow these quarter-inch-long reddish-brown insects to hide in minute cracks and crevices in furniture, inside electronics, behind wallpaper and switch plates and under carpeting. Easily spread, bed-bugs and their sticky microscopic eggs can be transported on clothing, used furniture and bedding, suitcases, backpacks and moving boxes. Some bed bug infestations have even been tracked back to moving vans. Once established, bed bugs spread quickly through homes, apartments, condominiums and office buildings via wall voids, electrical and plumbing conduits, heating ducts and shared laundry rooms.
Though small, bed bugs are tenacious and difficult to kill. A hard outer cuticle and their ability to hide deep within crevices can make it difficult for home owners and property managers to effectively exterminate bed bugs. Completely impervious to household insecticides, scientists report that a growing number of bed bug populations have developed resistance to commonly used commercial pesticides. Eliminating a bed bug infestation requires the services of a specialized pest control professional.
Heritage Pest Control Provides Three Bed Bug Treatment Options
Treatment Option 1 - Dry Steam Heat Treatment
As
time goes by bed bug experts agree that heat not cold appears to be the most
effective treatment in the elimination of bed bugs. A temperature of 290 degrees
at the tip of
a dry steam machine will kill all stages of bed bugs, including eggs,
nymphs, and
adults, if applied by an experienced pest control technician. Below is an explanation
of our Heat Treatment process which has been found to be highly effective in
Phase 1 - Preparation of the Affected Areas
A licensed and experienced bed bug inspector goes over in detail with you the preparation of the home or business necessary to insure a successful bed bug extermination treatment. It is only with the cooperation of you, the owner or with the tenant that elimination of bed bugs will be accomplished. Bed bugs like to hide in cracks and crevices and so preparation is the most important part of success. Read more information on our recommended preparation steps.
Phase 2 - Heat Application to Kill Bed Bugs
Experienced Heritage Pest Control technicians will treat the following areas with dry steam with a tip temperature of 280-320 degrees. This dry heat has been confirmed to kill all phases of bed bugs including eggs.
| Furniture | Carpet Tacking Strips |
| Base Moldings | Window Moldings |
| Door Moldings | Bedding |
| Closets | All Cracks and Crevices |
Phase 3 - Residual Application
To assure that bed bugs will not occur again we will treat the environment with either green or a synthetic liquid and/or dust application. Electrical outlets will need to be dusted and certain other areas in the environment will benefit from a residual liquid treatment. We can also use diatomacious earth on request for further assurance.
Phase 4 - Follow Up
Heritage Pest Control will come back two weeks after the initial treatment and repeat the application. We will also inspect all areas for any new bed bug activity. Our technicians work hard to kill your bed bugs dead and give you peace of mind again.
Treatment Option 2 - Synthetic Residuals
Instead of using heat we will use EPA chemical materials to rid your home or office of bed bugs.

We sell these products and can also provide the installation.
We have found that this extra step aids in preventing a bed bug reinfestation and provides consumers the peace of mind that they need after a bed bug problem. We only use Protect-A-Bed mattress and box spring encasements as these are top of the line triple stitched covers with specially made zippers that will trap any bed bugs inside. The miracle membrane prevents bites while providing a cool comfortable surface for sleeping.
Bed Bug Prevention Training
Heritage Pest Control works with you, the customer, to advise you on the best practices to follow in order to reduce the chances of re-introducing bed bugs back into your home or business after treatment. Our experts explain what to do when you travel and how to be vigilant and monitor for any new bed bug presence.
Bed Bug Dog Inspections
We know that with all the media coverage on bed bugs, consumers who
feel that they may have bed bugs, be concerned that they may have a low level
infestation, or are concerned about strange bites that have appeared on family
members, may benefit from an inspection done by a specially trained bed bug
sniffing dog. These dogs receive highly specialized training and can smell
the presence of bed bugs even in low levels. It is less costly and disruptive
to treat for bed bugs when the problem is found early.
If you think you have bed bugs, we offer an inspection by one of our bed bug technicians, but may recommend a validation test by using a bed bug dog. A trained and certified bed bug dog can detect bed bugs in the smallest of cracks and in hidden areas that a human inspector may not be able to find. Inspections done by bed bug dogs are 90-97% accurate.
For hotels, motels, and commercial buildings bed bug dogs are able to inspect environments at a quicker pace and more accurately.
Bed Bug Monitors For Early Detection
If we feel that you may have a low level of bed bugs, we may recommend the use of a bed bug monitor to identify if bed bugs are present. We have several types of passive monitors. Some clients even purchase these monitors to look for re-infestation.

Any bed bugs or bugs fall in the open trap and cannot climb out on the slick surface preventing bed bugs from finding their way to you for their next blood meal. These monitors are chemical free. | These small cardboard flaps create an inviting environment for the bed bug to nest in. When placed in various areas around the bedroom and under the mattress, they can be used to identify if there is a presence of bed bugs. | These square passive bed bug monitors fit under the legs of beds or furniture and capture traveling bed bugs on their way to a blood feeding.
