Computer 'Mice' Bedevil Snacking Office Workers
Computers have become such a normal part of American life that people in northern New Jersey no longer think twice about snacking while they check their email or update their Facebook page. Office lunches are often eaten while at the keyboard, busy New Jersey workers munching as they type. While there’s nothing wrong with multi-tasking, eating over your computer keyboard is apt to scatter sandwich crumbs and bits of food among the keys. At some offices that’s creating a problem. Mice — and we’re not talking about your computer mouse; we’re talking about the gray fuzzy kind with the little pink ears and long, stringy tails.
Drawn by crumbs collecting in computer keyboards by snacking office workers, mice are making a nuisance of themselves in some office buildings. These small nocturnal rodents scurry over keyboards at night and forage through lunch bags tossed in trash cans in search of crumbs and food scraps. As they forage, mice dribble urine over surfaces and leave fecal pellets on desks and keyboards. An office worker who thought someone had dropped seeds on her keyboard was horrified when a pest control expert told her that those small black “seeds” were fecal pellets from mice.
Mice and rats carry fleas, mites and parasites that can spread dangerous diseases. Particles from rodent droppings in the air supply can cause asthma, severe allergies and potentially fatal Hantavirus, a dangerous respiratory condition. If you discover evidence of mice in your office, contact a professional rodent control specialist today.
