Wet Spring Leads to Northern New Jersey Ant Explosion

Ants of all types are invading northern New Jersey this summer. Northern New Jersey pest control experts have noticed a marked increase in ant control-related service calls in Bergen, Passaic, West Essex and Morris counties. A relatively mild winter followed by a wet spring has caused New Jersey ant populations to explode.

Big, black, wood destroying carpenter ants have been rampaging through northern New Jersey homes.  Typically found nesting in the dead portions of trees, under fallen logs, in firewood and rotting fence posts, carpenter ants will attack moist foundation wood in your home. These ants do not eat wood, but chew tunnels and large galleries into wood to house their colonies and young. As the colony grows, carpenter ants will attack undamaged lumber. Thousands of these ants are frequently found inhabiting window and door frames, woodwork and beams inside plumbing walls.

Carpenter ants won’t be the only ant problem bedeviling northern New Jersey homeowners this summer. The populations of all ant species are on the rise. Food-contaminating Little Black Ants, rusty-colored Citronella Ants, sweet-loving Odorous House Ants, swarming black pavement ants, grease-eating Thief Ants, and disease-spreading Pharaoh Ants have the potential to wreak havoc in northern New Jersey.

Ant control is best performed by an experienced northern New Jersey pest control professional. Ant colonies can divide and re-attack if improperly treated. Ant control experts target the home nest and queen, ensuring the end of your ant problems.
