Yellow Jackets Become More Aggressive in August

Northern New Jersey pest control professionals are warning residents to be wary of Yellow Jackets. These black and yellow wasps become extremely aggressive as summer heats up and are at their most dangerous in August when New Jersey families are most apt to be outdoors. Unprovoked attacks are common and can have life-threatening consequences.

The story of an Ohio man who nearly died last summer after being stung by a single Yellow Jacket illustrates the deadly power of these common New Jersey pests. Stung while gardening, Pat Parsons went into anaphylactic shock before he could administer anti-allergy medication. His arteries dilated, his blood pressure plummeted, his airways constricted critically, blood flow to his brain stopped and Parsons suffered a stroke. Less than 5 minutes after he was stung, the 40-year-old husband and father was comatose, struggling for his life.

The stroke left Parsons unable to communicate with little control over his movements. It took 11 months of intense rehabilitation before he was able to function and return to a normal life.

While Parson’s reaction was particularly severe, Yellow Jacket stings send scores of northern New Jersey residents to hospital emergency rooms each summer. Highly aggressive, these wasps not only sting their victims multiple times, they are quick to swarm and often attack without provocation.

If you discover a Yellow Jacket nest on your property, contact an experienced northern New Jersey pest control professional immediately for safe removal.
