Continuing from Friday…

If you have a stinging wound, you can crush up a cockroach and place it on the wound for instant relief.

Cockroaches wear their skeletons on the outside of their body.

Cockroaches bleed white blood, not red.

Cockroaches have faster reflexes than humans which is why it is so difficult to sneak up on them to kill them.

Cockroaches can scale a wall like Spider Man thanks to the help of the tiny little claws on their feet.

Cockroaches will eat any type of food source that they find. Nothing is off-limits to a hungry cockroach. Void of food sources, cockroaches will also eat, hair, human dander, leather, beer, starch in book bindings, soap, toothpaste, cardboard, paper shelf backing, paper, decaying organic matter, beer, sweets, glue and so much more.

In Germany, the German cockroach is called the “Russian Roach”. In Russia, it is called the “Polish Roach”. Nobody is sure why in America cockroaches are called water bugs or where the name “cockroach” came from in any country.

Cockroaches can be found in any part of a home but tend to prefer the kitchen area so they have easy access to food preparation and feed off food spills. Once cockroaches have moved into your home or business, they are very difficult to control. Hiring a NJ Pest Control professional is the best option for controlling invading cockroaches.

• Cockroaches spend approximately 75% of their time resting. The other 25% they are foraging for food, laying eggs, contaminating food sources/areas, and terrifying humans.

• Traditional bug bombs don’t work on cockroach infestations. Cockroaches are able to hold their breath for up to 40 minutes. Once they detect the poison in the air, they hold their breath and run.

• Have you seen any white cockroaches in your home? Don’t be afraid, it’s not the ghost of one that you squished coming to haunt you! Cockroaches will shed their skin a couple of times each year. Once they do, they are white for about 8 hours until they return to their normal coloring.

• Cockroaches are super-fast runners. They can easily run up to three miles an hour to avoid being wacked with a shoe.

• Cockroaches can survive a month without food, but will die after a week without water.

• A cockroach can survive a week without its head. It only dies because it does not have a mouth to drink water!

• Young cockroaches only need a space as slim as a dime to slip in and out of your home. Adult males need a space as thick as a quarter. Adult females with an egg sack need the equivalent of 2 nickels stacked on top of each other.

Please check back on Monday for the conclusion.

When you think of cockroaches, it’s hard to think that there could ever be anything fun about them. NJ pest control professionals admit that cockroaches are a difficult pest to eradicate once they have invaded a home or business. They are masters at hiding in any type of area of a structure, they can eat most anything, they multiply out-of-control, and seem to survive no matter what road block is thrown in their path. If you can get past their “ick” factor, the cockroach is quite an amazing, albeit still disgusting, creature to deal with.
Here are some strange cockroach facts that you might enjoy…
• Have you ever tried to sneak up on a cockroach and smack it with a shoe? More times than not, you would be unsuccessful because the cockroach has a large nerve that connects their tails to their heads which will alert them to oncoming danger.

• Cockroaches have 6 hairy legs and 18 knees (at least) which enable to climb on any surface with ease.

• Most female cockroaches will mate just one time in her life, but will be pregnant for her entire lifespan.

• We will never fully eradicate cockroaches from the earth. It is estimated that cockroaches have survived for 280+ million years!

Please check back for Part 2 on Friday.

The cockroach has been with us since prehistoric times by most estimates. The story goes if we get wiped out they will survive and just move on to bothering some other species. Stories of their living through a nuclear attack are somewhat unfounded though.

That survival may or may not include the little friends that are attached to them. Roaches are a nasty bunch in part because of what is hanging onto their bodies, legs and feet. When roaches go out on their nocturnal search for food in your house they aren’t too careful about what they walk on. They may scramble over a knife, fork, or spoon on your counter. If you use it before washing you may find yourself with an upset stomach due to the germs and viruses that they carry.

Roaches can carry salmonella, streptococcus, e-coli and other bacteria and viruses even the one that can cause poliomyelitis. Ringworm and hookworm can also be a hitchhiker on this bug.

Since they have been known to survive insecticide spray treatments the best way to get this disease carrying pest is to call an expert New Jersey pest control technician. A New Jersey exterminator has access to safe and effective treatments which they can use to quickly rid your home of this pest and all of the nasty hitchhikers that tag along with it.

The cockroach is known for surviving in some very hostile environments. They can live in sewer drains and any refuse piled outside. Whether it’s decaying leaves or trash that has some food packaging mixed in, these hardy New Jersey pests are going to make do as best they can. The number one solution to keeping them at bay is to keep them away from your home.

Cleaning the area around your home this fall can be a big help. Moving leaves and mulch away from walls and looking for cracks in your siding and caulking around windows and doors is a good idea, as is filling in these cracks once found. Their hardiness is a serious problem once they’ve made their way into your house.

Roaches feed on any food they can find but even keeping a pristine kitchen won’t starve these pests out. They eat soap, cosmetics, paper and even glue if food is scarce. If you see them scurrying around when putting on lights you can chase them but they can move pretty fast. Stepping on one or two will not rid you of the problem; it will just mean you have made more food available to the rest of them.

This insect is best handled by a New Jersey pest control professional. This expert has all the remedies available to rid any home or business of this persistent invader. In addition to the latest chemicals and green technology available, our technicians are qualified in fixing damage that this and any other pests may have caused. Once an experienced pest control professional has treated the problem and repaired any damage you can feel confident that cockroaches will no longer pose a problem.

The cockroach is one of the hardiest creatures on this planet. It has survived for millions of years and it is said a nuclear war wouldn’t eliminate this rugged New Jersey pest. They can be bothersome enough when they give you a chill as you see them scurrying across the floor but little that trip can be leaving a lot of trouble behind.

Cockroaches carry allergens on their bodies and in their excrement that can cause allergic reactions such as rashes on humans. They can exacerbate sinus allergies and asthma sufferers can be adversely affected by their presence. They can also transmit salmonella, dysentery and diarrhea just by walking over kitchen utensils that will later be used when eating.

The main reason they can be so adaptable is due to the fact that they breed at an alarming rate. If they find good conditions in your home with access to food and water that is all they will need to set up a burgeoning colony in no time at all. It is one hundred percent true that if you see a single cockroach that there are likely dozens or hundreds more lurking in your home.

The New Jersey pest eradication professional has been waging war against these creatures for years. They have the equipment and information necessary to get these insects out and keep them out. In order to keep your home and family safe you must call a pest control expert at the first sign of cockroach activity.

If you see a single cockroach it is a reasonably safe bet that there are plenty more around. This is evident to anyone who lives in urban areas like Northern New Jersey. The reason for this is that a female cockroach can reproduce up to 400 offspring in a year. Some species of cockroaches require the female to only be impregnated once to accomplish this.

There are a number of traps and strategies to eliminate these persistent pests. The tried and true ways of keeping all food covered and keeping the kitchen clean can help. In urban areas such as apartments and condominiums, you can’t rely on all your neighbors to do the same though. Cockroaches can easily get into walls and may very well travel into your home in search of food and water.

You shouldn’t be tempted to just put down some traps and dust some areas with diatomaceous earth after a quick check on the internet. The eradication of these pests is much easier to accomplish when you call in A New Jersey pest control contractor. They have all the necessary equipment, chemicals, and experience to handle this New Jersey pest.

Remember, its one female that can have 400 little ones. It’s not like ants that have only a single queen laying all the eggs, every female in the nest can reproduce at this rate. Hiring an experienced New Jersey pest control professional is your best option to completely eliminate these pests.
