The holiday season brings about extended visits from children who have been away at college for the past several months. This time of year also results in wonderful visits from friends and family members who you may not have seen since ringing in the New Year nearly a year ago.

The one down side to all of this extra traffic in your home during the holidays could be the arrival of some unwanted visitors. Your friends and loved ones who come in from out of town to spend some time at your home may be unknowingly harboring New Jersey bed bugs. If even a few of these pests make their way into your home it could quickly turn your holiday joy into an absolute nightmare.

New Jersey bed bugs are incredible hitchhikers that can easily ride along in luggage or gifts to end up in your home. Once these pests have made their way into your home it can be very difficult to get rid of them.

Any sign of bed bug activity should prompt an immediate call to an experienced New Jersey pest control professional. An experienced New Jersey exterminator has the knowledge and equipment necessary to quickly and safely remove bed bugs and restore the positive holiday spirit to your New Jersey home.

When the bed bug problem started to make the headlines few imagined it would have taken such a concerted effort to stem the tide against this New Jersey pest. Frequent travel and the ban of DDT had been cited as the main culprits in their resurgence but new studies have shown that their seemingly unstoppable repopulating could be caused by inbreeding.

Bed bugs aren’t the only New Jersey pest that can create havoc inside of your home though. There are a number of pests in the area that can cause damage or create health concerns. This is precisely why many New Jersey homeowners sign up for an annual service contract with a reputable New Jersey exterminator.

The integrated pest management approach used by our expert technicians includes chemical treatments around your home – especially near windows, door frames and the foundation. Landscaping materials in gardens that may harbor carpenter ants and other insects are examined and treated if necessary. Clogged gutters are cleared and any spots that insects and small rodents may use to enter your home are pointed out to be repaired as well.

The use of green, pet friendly products can also be a part of your annual maintenance plan. Our pest control experts have all the latest and safest treatments and equipment to make your home pest free and to keep it that way.

A team of entomologists in Philadelphia has found that bed bugs are successful, at least in part, due to inbreeding. It seems that by genetic analysis the bed bug doesn’t fall far from the genealogical tree. It may take only one or two females to start a large infestation if the bugs go unchecked.

The bug’s genetic density was studied and found to be very low which means that maybe just a few females supply the eggs in an infestation. When the eggs hatch the offspring mate with each other and with the original egg suppliers. This is unusual in many species, although another hearty and well entrenched New Jersey pest, the cockroach, is also believed to indulge in this behavior. The study speculates that insects that rely on humans for transportation seem more likely to thrive through this behavior.

The bed bug does not fly or jump but it still manages to be an incredible traveler. That is why you need to be careful about what you bring into your home. If you buy second hand furniture it should be meticulously checked. Clothing from your students returning home from college should be inspected as well, especially if they have been complaining of bug bites while away.

Any signs of bed bug activity should prompt an immediate call to a New Jersey pest control expert. An experienced pest control technician has the knowledge and equipment necessary to end and infestation as quickly and safely as possible.

Unusually warm temperatures are making it easier to get those holiday decorations and lights out in Northern New Jersey. Some of us go all out and can spend quite a lot of time on ladders and up in trees stringing lights. The theme of the month should be safety first. The Christmas season sees its share of fires due to improper electrical rigging and falls by inexperienced ladder climbers.

Sometimes you may see a hole in the eaves section of the roof when stringing lights and decorations and taking a quick stab at repairing this can lead to more trouble than it is worth. You want to make that repair because it can be the entranceway for squirrels or an ambitious raccoon looking for winter quarters. That job is best left to the New Jersey Pest professional though. There are many jobs this expert can perform besides finding and eliminating pests. One of them is repairing the damage a pest has used in the past to invade your home.

At Heritage Pest Control we offer another service as well – holiday lighting. Any home or business can take advantage of this knowing that an experienced person is up there doing something that they are familiar with. They have the proper knowledge on how to get electric to these lights and decorations so you can have a safe and relaxing holiday season.

The winter’s approach can see the activities of many New Jersey pests designed for a common goal, survival. Small insects, mice, squirrels and rats are very interested in finding a warmer place to continue on with their activities. Their definition of warmer may be different than yours, a cool, damp basement may not look too inviting to you but to mice, roaches, spiders and crickets it’s just the place to get started on a new life for the foreseeable future.

The spider may be there killing off some insects, but their presence could indicate there is a lot of food around for them. This is a very unfavorable scenario, especially if part of their diet is the New Jersey cockroach. These pests are bad for everyone as they carry a number of diseases and viruses on their feet and bodies and they can reproduce at an alarming rate.

The presence of spiders, cockroaches or any of the other aforementioned pests makes the call to your New Jersey pest control technician a must. They have all the necessary treatments that will affect the pests without causing harm to you, your family members or pets. New Jersey Pest control experts can rid your home of any one of these pests quickly and safely.

It’s time to get ready for the coming holiday season. Everyone in northern New Jersey will be looking to display their favorite decorations to get in the holiday spirit. If these decorations are kept in areas less traveled you may find that some unwanted holiday visitors have been nesting among them.

Squirrels can get into any attic that has a small hole in the eaves or siding. The storage areas in the attic are a good place for them to hide. If you see evidence of squirrels you should call the New Jersey pest control expert to rid you of this pest before they can establish a nest for their young.

The New Jersey carpenter ant is another pest that can create havoc in your attic. These pests have been known to burrow into insulation to get into the wood joists and supports of your roof. Small piles of sawdust that may contain ant and other insect parts by wall voids are what to look for if you see some insulation that has fallen down.

A New Jersey exterminator can handle any and all pests you might find evidence of while you are in your attic, garage or shed. Contact them immediately after finding signs of any New Jersey pest so you can be rid of them before your holiday becomes a lot less festive.

The cockroach has been with us since prehistoric times by most estimates. The story goes if we get wiped out they will survive and just move on to bothering some other species. Stories of their living through a nuclear attack are somewhat unfounded though.

That survival may or may not include the little friends that are attached to them. Roaches are a nasty bunch in part because of what is hanging onto their bodies, legs and feet. When roaches go out on their nocturnal search for food in your house they aren’t too careful about what they walk on. They may scramble over a knife, fork, or spoon on your counter. If you use it before washing you may find yourself with an upset stomach due to the germs and viruses that they carry.

Roaches can carry salmonella, streptococcus, e-coli and other bacteria and viruses even the one that can cause poliomyelitis. Ringworm and hookworm can also be a hitchhiker on this bug.

Since they have been known to survive insecticide spray treatments the best way to get this disease carrying pest is to call an expert New Jersey pest control technician. A New Jersey exterminator has access to safe and effective treatments which they can use to quickly rid your home of this pest and all of the nasty hitchhikers that tag along with it.

In Northern New Jersey there can be many creatures that can create havoc in a home. Many can get a real foothold because of one common factor – they do their damage at night. The evidence of these New Jersey pests can be slowly building up around you and you may not know it.

Take the mouse or rat that likes to move around at the more quiet times of the day. You may see a bitten food package or some black pellets without ever actually seeing a rodent. The carpenter ant is also a nocturnal worker. Some do it yourself lists on ridding your home of these pests tell you to stay up with a flashlight and follow them from your home to their nest.

The bed bug is always up to no good after you retire for the evening. Another biting insect that can cause some physical problems would be a sac spider. These pests have a painful bite that can cause a welt to rise up and one variety can actually cause tissue damage with their bite.

The presence of any nocturnal New Jersey pest should be handled by an experienced New Jersey pest technician. If you see any signs of insect activity, even if you don’t see the insects, you should call the New Jersey pest control expert to get to the root of the problem.

There was an arrest earlier this year in New York’s Chinatown of a vendor who was selling a pesticide that was 60 times more powerful than its legal potency. The desire to kill roaches in the area had these pesticides in demand. The case also revealed that there is an underground market for these types of powerful chemicals. There are also powerful agents for rat control available but it can be extremely hazardous to people and pets.

The banning of DDT back in 1972 has been and remains controversial. There were a number of stories through the 2000’s about the ban and how it created a problem for countries hard hit by malaria. This ban on its manufacture has also made it harder and harder for any country that still allows its importation to find DDT.

Even after the ban DDT contamination cropped up mostly due to its long life in soils and the washing of contaminated soil into our lakes and streams. DDT is said to damage the liver, be a carcinogen and cause reproductive system damage and temporary nervous system damage. Its ban also is revisited from time to time in news stories about bed bugs as it was thought that DDT had almost eradicated that New Jersey pest from the planet.

A New Jersey pest professional will always be armed with the best and safest products currently allowable in pest control. It may seem great to think back to the good old days when DDT seemingly wiped out every bug imaginable. With our IPM solutions and the best in current chemical technology a New Jersey pest control technician will always be ready to provide safe, productive service though.

The fall is a time when the squirrels in your neighborhood seem more prevalent. They are scurrying across suburban roads almost constantly at this time of year. They are using this time to prepare for the winter. You’ll see them on your lawn and around your home more as they are storing acorns and other morsels for easy access in the ground for the colder months ahead.

They are also up to something else that might not be so apparent. That is investigating your eaves and roof line for access to warmer quarters. The Northern New Jersey area is very built up, so there are fewer trees. This can make gaining entrance to your home a real goal for these rodents at wintertime. They are expert gnawers and can turn a small crack into an entranceway.

You should check your roof line and eaves for any damaged areas that may show evidence of gnawing. If you find some evidence you may already have an unwanted intruder setting up shop in your attic. If this is the case you should reach out to a New Jersey pest professional and have them survey the damage and check for the presence of squirrels in your house. If you’ve got squirrels the pest control technician can humanely trap them and get rid of the problems their residence can make.

The New Jersey pest control expert can repair the damage that has been made too so further invasion will not be a problem. Some do it yourselfers have been known to close up these holes trapping the pest inside where you don’t want them. An experienced professional is what you need to get these rodents out and keep them out.
